Lieutenant-Colonel (Retired) Albert “Al” Richard Polczynski, 91, of Russellville, Arkansas, died peacefully at home on October 5, 2023. Al was born on November 10, 1931, in Morocco, Indiana. He joined the Army in September 1952, and proudly served his country for 33 years. Al was a two-tour veteran of Vietnam and a Professor of Military Sciences at Arkansas Tech University where he shared his love for the military with the students of ROTC. He is a decorated veteran having earned many citations and certificates of merit including the two Bronze Star Medals, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Cross for Gallantry among others.\n\nAl met and married Lee Howard, in Wheatfield, Indiana, in April, 1952. Al was kind and generous, making everyone feel welcome and loved. His smile and cheerful demeanor were infectious to all of those around him. In retirement, Al and Lee enjoyed traveling the countryside in their RV, visiting friends and family, and delighted in many family celebrations. He was a past Grand Knight of The Knights of Columbus in Russellville and a devout member of St. John’s Catholic Church.\n\nHe is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Lee, of Russellville, and seven sons: Rick (Sandy) of Tampa, Florida; Dan (Patty) of Story, Arkansas; Ken (Brenda) of Saint Cloud, Florida; Kevin (Tammy) of Springfield, Missouri; Mark (Audrey) of Indian Harbour Beach, Florida; Chris (Shannon) of Augusta, Georgia; and Tom (Mary Beth) of Greensboro, North Carolina; 18 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren; one brother, Daniel Polczynski; and a long list of nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.\n\nVisitation will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Humphrey Funeral Home, 2801 W Main St, Russellville. Father Daniel Ramos will be officiating the funeral service on Monday, October 16, 2023, at 9:00 am at St. John’s Catholic Church, 1900 West Main St., Russellville, AR, followed by interment at Rest Haven Memorial Park, 2500 South Knoxville Ave, Russellville, AR., under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.
