Carol Sue (Sisson) Smith Obituary (1936 - 2022)

Carol Sue (Sisson) Smith was born in Russellville, AR, on October 6, 1936. She went to be with the Lord in Russellville, on June 30, 2022. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at Humphrey Funeral Chapel. Following a private family committal service in the Chapel of Light, Carol was cremated under the direction of the Herman Humphrey Dignity Cremation Center. She is survived by her husband, Gaylon O'Neil Smith, to whom she was married for nearly 68 years. She is also survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law: Kim and Steve Troboy, Robin Johnson, and Lyn and Joe Jacimore; four grandchildren and spouses: Jeff Jones, Kristyn & Ryan Riley, Casey & Amber Jacimore, and Rebecca & Austin Brock; six great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law Barbara Sisson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Iva Willard ('Bill') and Opal Mae (Whorton) Sisson; two brothers: Doyle Wayne Sisson and Kenton David Sisson; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert Smith and Mildred (Benefiel) Smith Davis; a sister-in-law, Willadean Sisson; and one son-in-law Steve Johnson. Carol was a devoted Christian, military wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She served others her entire life, volunteering at military hospitals, organizing care for the families of the men serving under her husband, leading a Girl Scout troop, feeding hungry college students, or at church. An avid reader, she believed in life-long learning, often taking courses at several of her husband's duty stations. Carol earned an undergraduate degree in rehabilitation science at Arkansas Tech University and did graduate work in rehabilitation science at the University of Central Arkansas at Conway. She learned practical skills, too, as she sewed outfits for her girls, baked fresh bread, made cheese, churned butter, and canned vegetables. Her most recent hobby was growing herbs on her back deck. Carol was much loved by her family, her church family, and even her Great Pyrenees and Goldens grand-dogs. Memorials may be made to Manna House at 304 S Commerce Ave, Russellville, AR 72801.
