Idus L. Leavell Obituary (1935 - 2013)

Idus L. Leavell, 77, of Russellville, passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, February 18, 2013 at his home. One of 9 children of Oscar and Autra Phillips Leavell, he was born November 15, 1935 in Russellville. As a boy he picked cotton for 50 cents an hour in Carden Bottoms, and he learned how to "gee" and "haw" on the family farm, instilling in him a belief in hard work. He was a 1954 graduate of Russellville High School. He and Linda Swanson were married on October 16, 1955 at Rangeley, CO. Idus worked in the telephone and telecommunications industry for ITT and Northern Telecom as a projects supervisor, retiring 1999. He believed his greatest accomplishment was that he and Linda raised 3 wonderful children. He attended the Liberty Grove Assembly of God church and he loved Christian country gospel. He and Linda enjoyed square dancing and he was a member of the River Valley Squares. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Bobby Leavell and Billy Joe Leavell; an infant sister. He is survived by his wife, Linda Leavell, Russellville; 3 children, Kathie Herod (Butch), Houston, TX, Brent Leavell (Teresa), Ozark, AR, Stacey Leavell (Kristie), Rockwall, TX; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a brother, Lonnie Leavell, Beebe; 4 sisters, Phyllis Hubbard (Ron), London, Debbie Smith (David), London, Cathryn Pennington, Russellville, Cleta Castor (Bill), Finley, PA A memorial service will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Humphrey Chapel in Russellville.
