Jerry Don Reed

Jerry Don Reed, Sr., 58, of Russellville, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. The son of Arthur and Francis Louise Nichols Reed, he was born October 25, 1949 in Pottsville. He was a 1967 graduate of Pottsville High School. Jerry Don joined the United States Army and served in Fort Campbell, Kentucky and in Germany where he guarded the Berlin Wall. During his service in Germany he met and married Katharina Meier on November 23, 1977. He also served in Panama in the 1980's and retired from the Army in 1983. He worked for Cunningham Metals and then Con-Agra until his retirement in 1998. He enjoyed fishing, coin collecting and spending time with all of his nieces and nephews and his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Terry and Dennis Reed.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years Katharina Reed of Russellville; three sons, Gary Don Reed & wife Penny of Lambertville, MI, Jerry Don Reed II of Fort Riley, KS, Larry Reed & wife Marcy of Lambertville, MI; one daughter, Katherine Reed of Atkins; a son-in-law, Richard Hernandez of Atkins; eight grandchildren, Dylan Reed and Jacquelyn Reed of Lambertville, MI, Jerry Don Reed, III & Xander Reed of Fort Riley, KS, Thomas Allen Reed of Lambertville, MI, Heidi Ann, Janina Camille, and Alejandra Isabel Hernandez of Atkins; three brothers, Jackie Reed of West Plains, Missouri, Bill Reed of Dardanelle, and Jeff Reed of Russellville; two sisters, Carolyn Reed of Jacksonville, AR, and Jennifer Reed of Morrilton.
Funeral will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Humphrey Chapel. Rev. Miles King will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be at Liberty Hill Cemetery at Hunt, Arkansas by Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be 1:00 pm Saturday until service time at the funeral home.
