John Slone

John Paul Slone, 70, of Russellville, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at his home. He was born on June 20, 1954, in Paris, Arkansas, to John and Joyce Nichols Slone. On March 24, 1978, John married the love of his life, Deborah Jean Scott Slone, in Van Buren, Arkansas, and they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family.

John's deep commitment to family was evident throughout his life. A devoted husband, father, and "papa," he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He was a proud father to Dr. Cara Knight, of Danville, and Lt. Col. Travis Slone, of Clovis, New Mexico, and found immense joy in his role as a grandfather to his five grandchildren: Ryan, Audrey, and Ellie Slone, and Beckett and Walker Knight.

John spent his career as an accountant with International Paper and was an active member of the Russellville First United Methodist Church. He served faithfully on the Finance and Stewardship Committees and was deeply invested in the church community. In his free time, John enjoyed traveling with his family, watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys and Arkansas Razorbacks, and participating in fantasy football.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Joyce Slone. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Deborah; his daughter, Dr. Cara Knight (Brock) of Danville; his son, Lt. Col. Travis Slone (Melissa) of Clovis, New Mexico; and his five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Humphrey Chapel, officiated by Dr. Rev. Tony Griffin. A private committal service was held at the Chapel of Light at the J. Herman Humphrey Dignity Cremation Center, under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.
