Joseph graduated from Dover High School in 2002 and enlisted in the U.S. Army in November of 2008. After receiving training as a field medic, Joseph was stationed at Camp Casey, the Army's Second Infantry Division Headquarters in Dongducheon, South Korea which is adjacent to the Korean DMZ.
Upon his return to the states, Joseph was stationed at a secretive U.S. Army base known as the Dugway Proving Grounds in Utah. Currently, Dugway's massive 800,000 acres allows it to be the premiere site for testing defense systems against chemical and biological. Camp Dugways' history dates to within two months of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt set aside the first 127,000 acres of Dugway Proving Ground in Utah's Great Salt Lake Desert. In order to test the fire-causing weapons, crews at Dugway built replicas of German and Japanese villages, going so far as to fill the model buildings with furniture that would be similar to that found in the respective country.
A decorated soldier, Joseph received the Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon.
