Joyce Dale Merrick

Joyce Merrick, 75, of Russellville, AR, died Friday, June 3, 2011 in Russellville. The daughter of Garland and Ora Mariah Lile Featherston, she was born November 23, 1935 in Paris, AR. She married Lester Burnett Merrick, on January 21, 1956. She was a member of the 1953 class of Paris High School. She attended Arkansas Polytechnic College and received her B.S. at the University of Arkansas and her Masters from Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma. She was a Home-economics teacher in the Pottsville and later Russellville School District for a total of 32 years. She loved growing fruits and vegetables and sharing them with her family and friends. She and L.B. were members of the Russellville Square Dancing Club.
She was a member of PEO Sisterhood and several teachers organizations. She attended Pottsville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Pottsville. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bill Featherston.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, L.B. Merrick, Russellville; a son, Les Merrick & wife Marsha, Jonesboro; two grandchildren, Leah & Luke Merrick, Jonesboro; a brother, Russell Featherston & Yvonne, Paris; a sister, Sally Hallum & husband Don, Wylie, TX; sisters-in-law, Nell Featherston, Beaumont, TX and Beverly Merrick, Russellville.
Memorial service will be 10:00AM, Monday, June 6, 2011 at Pottsville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church at Pottsville. Reverend Howard Wheeler will officiate. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service. Memorials may be made to the Pottsville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, P.O. 156, Pottsville, AR 72858.
