Loyal Pawnee (Lewis) Winters Obituary (1924

Loyal Pawnee Winters, 97, of Monett, Missouri, formerly of Dover, Arkansas, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at her home. The daughter of Oman and Lena (Burnett) Lewis, she was born March 16, 1924, in Coal Hill, Arkansas. She married her long-time love, Norman Winters, on December 24, 1944, in Dover. Pawnee was a life-long resident of Dover until her health began to decline at which time she moved to Monett to live with her son and daughter-in-law. Her faith was most important to her and while living in Dover was a member of Dover Assembly of God where she taught Sunday School. After moving to Monett, she attended Countryside Christian Church where her grandson, Whitney, is pastor. Pawnee touched many, many lives with her sweet smile and radiating love for the Lord. Pawnee was known for making potholders and is said to have sewn over 1,600 potholders that have been distributed nationwide. In her woodshop, she also made toys, hundreds of bird boxes that have been shared with family and friends. She never met a stranger and would often been seen to stop and visit with children wherever she was. She will be greatly missed by her large family and even larger family of friends. Pawnee was preceded in death by her husband Norman in 1999; her parents; three brothers, O.D. Lewis, Charles Lewis and Thomas Lewis; and three sisters, Blanche Jones, Pauline Taylor and Beatrice Jackson. She is survived by her son Edwin Winters (Sheri) of Monett; six grandchildren, Tonnie Yaffe (Barry) of Tulsa, OK; Teddy Spivey (Tiffany) of Dardanelle; Tommy Spivey (Kelly); David Moddrell of Eagle Rock, MO; Whitney Branch (Jan) of Monett; and, Allison Hilton (Bill) of Carthage, MO; 10 great grandchildren, 21 great great grandchildren; 18 great great great grandchildren; a brother, R.C. Lewis (Cardelia) of Russellville; two sisters, Janea Faulkner of Dover, and Arlene (David) Simpson of Russellville; two sisters-in-law, Betty Lewis of Russellville and Collette Lewis of Conway, and many nieces & nephews. The family would like to offer a very special "Thank you" to her caregiver, Reba Brown; and to Kelly and Allie of Compassus Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion during Pawnee's long illness. A graveside service will be held at 2:00PM, Thursday, October 14, 2021, at North New Hope Cemetery near Dover under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service. Rev. Jerry Patton will officiate. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm, on Wednesday, in Humphrey Funeral Home Chapel. For both the visitation time and the graveside service, the family has requested that all attendees wear a mask and social distance.
