Cleta Marvelle Virden

Cleta “Marvelle” Virden, aged 94, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024, at Russellville Nursing & Rehab Center in Russellville. A Celebration of Life service in her honor will take place on Thursday, January 25, at 2:00 PM at Humphrey Funeral Chapel, followed by her burial at Paschal Cemetery in Moreland under the compassionate direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.

Born on January 27, 1929, in Robertstown, Arkansas, Marvelle was the beloved daughter of James and Flora Ollie (Bailey) Greer. She found lifelong happiness when she married her late husband, Durl “Cabbage” Virden, in Morrilton, Arkansas, on March 10, 1956.

Marvelle was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 47 years, Durl; a special friend, Ernie Housley; her cousin, Phil Howard; and several brothers & sisters-in-law.

She is survived by her two dedicated caregivers, Judy Jones (Jimmy) and Eddie Housley (Sharon), both residents of Russellville, along with a special friend, Dana Hudson. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who cherished her presence.

Marvelle was a cherished member of the Moreland community, known for her involvement in the poultry business. She had a zest for life and enjoyed traveling, shopping, dining out with her family and friends, and relished listening to live bands at the senior center and Legion Hut, watching as others danced to the music. Her pets held a special place in her heart, and she lovingly cared for them. She remained a devoted member of the Harmony Free Will Baptist Church, finding solace and cherished friendships within her faith family.

For many years, Marvelle took on the role of caretaker for Paschal Cemetery in Moreland, ensuring its well-maintained appearance for the comfort of loved ones and families. In her memory, the family kindly invites contributions to Paschal Cemetery, C/O Regions Bank, 1907 West Main Street, Russellville, AR 72801.
