Modean O. Kimzey Obituary (1918

Modean O. Kimzey, 86, of Ola, died Monday, May 9, 2005 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. The daughter of Aaron "A.K." and Nancy (Sullivan) George, she was born July 12, 1918 near Centerville. She grew up in Yell County where she chopped and picked cotton as a teenager in Carden Bottoms. During World War II Modean moved to Detroit where she worked at Parke Davis Pharmaceuticals. In the 1950's she and her two sisters and their families moved to Wichita, Kansas. She worked at Kress Department Store in Wichita where she met Leonard Kimzey. They married on December 12, 1953 in Derby, Kansas in the home of her sister, Hattie Holbrook. At the age of 38 she gave birth to her only child, Ricky. Modean loved singing both to her son and also with a family quartet at church which included her three brothers. In 1975 the family returned to her beloved childhood home in Yell County. She was a Homemaker and took great joy in spending time with her two granddaughters. She was a member of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Birta for 65 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard F. Kimzey and was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Frank, Aaron, Hayden and Rufus George; two sisters, Lyda Rodgers and Hattie Holbrook and an infant sister, Ruth Elizabeth George. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ricky Kimzey and Patricia, Ola; two grandchildren, Sarah & Hannah Kimzey, Ola; a brother, Marlin George, Birta, two sisters, Mary Ann Rodgers, Ola, Verdell Ellison, Birta; her caregiver, Sandra Burnett, Ola; her special little friend, Brayden Burnett, Ola. Funeral will be at 2 pm Thursday, May 12, 2005 at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. Brother Jon Holbrook, Brother Ron Whittle, Brother Eddie Rogers & Virgil Lewis will officiate. Burial will be at Birta Cemetery by Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be 6-8:30 pm Wednesday at the funeral home in Russellville.
