Newell Andrew Crandall, passed away to be with his precious Lord on June 27, 2022, at his residence in Sublimity, Oregon, with his family at his side. Graveside funeral & burial services will be10:00 AM, Friday, July 22, 2022, at St. Paul Cemetery in the Gravel Hill community near Dover, Arkansas, under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service. Newell was born October 5, 1925, in Gravel Hill to Estle Dewain and Eula May (Talkington) Crandall. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pauline "Polly" (Porter) Crandall whose cremains will be interred with her husband's body; a son, Timothy Crandall; and a brother, Aaron Crandall. He is survived by his children: Ken Crandall, Thom Crandall, Annie Streckfuss, Susan Crandall; a step son Mark Gilligan; nine grandchildren, Jay, Chris, Jon, Janell, Daniel, Luke, Erinn, Liz and Sarah; four great grandchildren, Amos, Nathaniel, Aaylah, Hiba; a sister, Wanda Wilbanks; a niece Carol, and a nephew Allen. Newell was raised in Arkansas enjoying his youth playing basketball and baseball. He attended high school for eleven years before joining the United States Navy and serving honorably during World War II as a Petty Officer Second Class coxwain mate responsible for navigating & steering small Navy vessels. He served in the Pacific Theater aboard troop ship APA-48 at Luson, Tiepia, in the Philippines. His adult years were spent in the Bay area of California before moving to Arizona in 2000. He later moved near Marian Estates in Sublimity, Oregon in 2010. Prior to retirement, Newell worked for the Food Machinery Corp (FMC) in San Jose, California as a machinist. When not working, Newell enjoyed woodworking, square dancing, gardening, carpentry, baseball, traveling, going to church and old-time country and gospel music.
