Purendra R. Patel Obituary (1945 - 2012)

Webcast Previously Recorded Purendra R. Patel, 67, of Russellville, AR, formerly of India, died Monday, August 20, 2012 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. The son of Ramanbhai and Shantaben Patel, he was born May 23, 1945 in Nadiad Gujarat State in India. He excelled at the game of cricket in high school and continued to play while attending the Gujarat University in Ahmedabad, graduating in 1966. Purendra continued playing cricket with the First Class West Zone Ranjeet Trophy League from 1968 to 1978. He played the position of batsman and achieved national fame for his hitting style. In 1990 he moved to the United States and in 1991 became the manager and later the owner of the Economy Inn Motel in Russellville. He was a member of the Hindu faith and was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Geeta Patel, Russellville; a son, Rohan Patel, Russellville; a daughter, Amisha Patel, Russellville; 3 sisters, Bhartiben Patel, India, Taralaben Patel, Chicago, Bakulaben Patel, India; a brother, Ketubhai Patel, India. Funeral will be at 12:30PM, Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Humphrey Chapel. Sanatbhai Vyas will officiate. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.
