Robert "Bob" Clayton Handley was born on the 6th of August, 1932, and passed away peacefully at home on August 7th, 2026, just a day after celebrating his 94th birthday. Bob was born in St Joseph, Missouri, to Arthur Handley and Gladys Lorraine Ellis.
As a young man, Bob enrolled in the US Navy, serving in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War, eventually retiring from the military. On January 13, 1959, he married the love of his life, Modrelle “Molly” Thornsberry Handley and lived in Battle Creek, Michigan. He often said that Molly was the only reason he was able to pass the short-hand class he took. After Molly passed away 1994, he started spending time in Russellville, Arkansas, to get away from Michigan’s cold winters and to be closer to family. Eventually, Russellville became his permanent home. His favorite activities included playing Scrabble and reading books. He faithfully attended St. John’s Catholic Church while he was able and was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. His kindness will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Patsy Handley Cole of Texas and two brothers, Donald Handley of Arizona and Jerry Handley of Florida, as well as his cousin, Gordon Thornsberry of Russellville.
He is survived by his family, Tonia (Gerald) Ouzts, Josie Ouzts, Sue Thornsberry, Jeri Keene and children, Nova and Micah, as well as his special friend, Carol Bethel.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to his favorite organization, Knights of Columbus, PO Box 462, Russellville, AR 72811.
