Mr. William L. "Bomber" Sorrells Jr Obituary (1930 - 2017)

William L. "Bomber" Sorrells Jr., 86, of Atkins, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home in Russellville. The son of William Sorrells Sr. and Anna (Coleman) Sorrells, he was born November 23, 1930 in Atkins. He married Lelia Campbell, on May 24, 1952 at Pascagoula, MS. He was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean War and also served two tours in the Vietnam War, during his 20-year career with the military. Also, because he was an avid athlete the Air Force designated him to play offensive tackle for the Air Force Football Team, where he earned the nickname "Bomber". After retiring from the Air Force, he worked as a postman with United States Postal Service till his retirement after 20 years of service. William was a member of the Atkins First Baptist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Zone and Planning Commission, and City Council. He enjoyed fishing and boating, construction, sports, spending time with family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, William L. "Billy" Sorrells III; and three sisters, JoAnn Edwards, Mildred Marshall, and Vivian Godwin. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Lelia Sorrells; his son, Thomas C. Sorrells and daughter-in-law, Carina of Las Vegas, NV; his daughter, Emily Pope and son-in-law, Marshall of Dallas, TX; two grandchildren, Madison Pope of Miami, FL and Holli English of Clarksville; great-granddaughter, Blaise English of Clarksville; brother Billy Sorrells and sister-in-law Betty of Russellville; and numerous nieces who loved him very much. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Humphrey Chapel in Russellville, 2801 West Main St, Russellville, AR 72801. Rev. Ferrel Duffel will officiate. Burial will be held at 10AM, Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at the Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery in North Little Rock, AR by Humphrey Funeral Service.
