Traditional Burial

While many individuals are opting for cremation as their choice for final disposition, many still desire traditional funeral services with burial in a cemetery, which Humphrey Funeral has been providing families in our community for over 90 years. There are several aspects to our traditional services:

Visitation with or without viewing of the body:

Most families will plan this event the evening prior to funeral services the following day, although an hour of visitation prior to the funeral service is becoming common. Whether the service is to be held at the funeral home, in a church setting, or at the graveside, the visitation & viewing will usually be at the funeral home the night preceding.

Funeral services

There are traditionally three types of funeral services (sometimes referred to as a “Celebration of Life.”) The most common is a service in our funeral home chapel. Many families want the services for their loved ones conducted in a church, while others prefer a graveside service at the cemetery. Any three can serve specific family needs in the best way and can be most meaningful in either setting.

Cemetery interment or burial

Most families have loved ones buried in a common cemetery and will choose it for their final resting place. Others may need to choose a cemetery at the time of death. Our funeral staff will assist your family in arranging your burial in the cemetery of your choice, including the opening and closing of the grave. You will also want to consider a monument stone to mark the grave, using a double marker for husband & wife to be side-by-side. For eligible Veterans, our staff will also arrange interment in one of our national cemeteries, or the placement of a bronze or granite foot marker for the grave.

Additional services

Our funeral directors will assist you in securing death certificates for your family records and to finalize end-of-life tasks (closing financial accounts, insurance, retirement, etc.). We will file an official death notification with the Social Security Administration. We will also work with you in composing your loved one’s obituary that will be published on the internet or newspaper editions. Our selection room offers a wide variety of casket and vault (outer container) options.

Optional Additions

To add more meaning to the celebration of your loved one’s life and legacy, we offer additional services you might wish to include. We can produce a Video Tribute with photos & music that can be played at the visitation and funeral service. We can livestream the funeral services from our chapel and record the service in high definition. To honor your Veteran, arrangements can be made to provide military honors at the service or graveside to include a gun salute, the playing of “Taps,” and the folding and presentation of the American flag (free to Veteran families). Our Kate Humphrey Dining Room offers your family a special place to share a catered or potluck-type meal together prior to your visitation or funeral services.
